With Ethernet now well and truly established in the industrial control space it is often the go to for connecting to the devices as it removes the need to carry around a proprietary cable for every device. So, to help reduce the cables by one more this tech tip will walk through the basics of connecting to Schmersal’s PSC1 via ethernet using SafePLC.

The most common situation is the monitoring of “standstill” condition which can be achieve by a variety of methods. This is often accomplished by monitoring of a rotating part or monitoring the back EMF (Electro Magnetic Force) from the motor. Once a safe state or “zero speed” is confirmed by revolution frequency or low millivolt back EMF, the open signal may be triggered to unlock the gate to permit operator entry.
